So let us help each other. We may quarrel or shout at each other but when natural disasters happen, our humanity should prevail over all our differences.
Thus, it was right for our country to send a contingent to Turkey to deliver relief goods and help in the rescue or retrieval operations. We might not have much but we can share any small resources we have. The people of Tukey now have nothing. Then in the freezing winter, the houses of most of them came crumbling down. Their high rises are now just piles of rubble.
Beneath such piles are the bodies of thousands of people. They were sound asleep when the 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck. They never had a chance. Yet miracles happened. An infant with umbilical cord still uncut was rescued. Of the whole family, it was only him or her who was saved from under the rubble. Whatever kind of life awaits him/her, at least there will be a life. And as blessed as he/she was, the blessing will surely continue.
All the survivors certainly need help, from materials needed to survive the freezing cold—food, blankets, winter clothes, etc, to the psychological comfort that could be given. Most of all, they need spiritual assurance that their creator is not fast asleep. He is down there in the midst of the dust from collapsing buildings or in the darkness beneath the mounds of rubble everywhere.
Surely the living, we pray for them to continue to do well. For those who perished, we also pray for them to be welcomed in heaven. Hopefully, even those who were preoccupied with worldly thoughts such as the prospect of being welcomed by nine virgins.
We also pray that help will, as it should have, come from the nearby Middle Eastern countries who are wallowing in material wealth. Why should the victims be expecting help from far-away countries like the Philippines and the USA? The material resources they need are just near them with their brother and sister Muslims
So the big question puzzling a lot of people is, “Why are relief goods not coming like floods to the earthquake victims of Turkey and Syria? The same thing with rescuers.**
