27 May 2020 – The City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) last week reported hundreds of enthusiasts secured wellness passes hoping to lose extra pounds they gained during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) established to battle spread of the COVID-19.
Atty. Rhenan Diwas, officer-in-charge of CEPMO revealed, some 300-individuals hoping to shed off unwanted curves requested authority to conduct aerobic exercises at Burnham Park and the Baguio Athletic Bowl.
About 500-residents, on the other hand, were granted the privilege to do their exercise routines along the city’s road network.
Diwas said, inspection of Burnham Park, May 19, revealed only 20-joggers and two Zumba groups. One or two bikers were also seen along South Drive.
He concluded, for now, the number of health enthusiasts utilizing our parks and roads are manageable.
Diwas revealed online registration is now available to prevent queuing at the CEPMO office in City Hall. This, he said, is to ensure social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
He said the number of fitness enthusiasts is expected to grow significantly in the coming days.
Meeting is set this week for guidelines for possible allowance of other sports activities in parks. This, to address the clamor from certain sports coaches whose sources of income were crippled during the quarantine.
Meanwhile Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong assigned City Buildings and Architecture Office (CBAO) head Johnny Degay to look into the park’s ambulant vendors. He asked for recommendations on what best to do to prevent crowding in food outlets in the area.**Julie G. Fianza
