Praying is communicating our hopes or dreams to a higher force that we believe has control over us and our lives. That is what prayer means to me. It, therefore, requires that I believe in this higher force which I call God, although others may call it other names (not all people are English-speaking, you know). It requires faith from me – faith in the power of God over everything. This faith includes the belief that this God wants us, and all his creation, to be well and live abundantly as John 10:10 says “I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
I don’t know about you but my faith also entails my belief in His design of the universe, that there is order and harmony and beauty in all He made, because there are universal laws that He instituted. The wonder of this belief is that the more I believe, the more I see how these laws are manifested. And one of the manifestations of these universal laws is the power of prayer, if I may say.
Prayers are thoughts- they are aspirations, they are dreams of what we want – whether they are just in your head, or said or sung with your lips. Thoughts are energies. Every time you entertain an idea or belief (just like what I am doing now and whatever you are doing now), you emit some kind of electromagnetic waves which in turn, create ripples around them. Just like a drop of water will create ripples in a big pond. We cannot see these electromagnetic waves but they are here and there, all around us, whether you believe in them or not. Quantum physics teaches us that everything is energy. And the reality is that energy is always in motion, meaning we impact on all those around us just as those around us impact on us. The term “around us” means not only those near us but all those in our universe. This means that we have built-in enormous power.
“.. one of the fundamental tenets of quantum physics is that nothing exists until it is observed. So before any person, object, particle or opportunity can manifest itself physically, it has to be observed.” ( Katherine Hurst, The Law of Attraction.com). Remember the expression “talking of the devil or angel”? Your thinking about that person attracted that person to go to you. This is the law of attraction working. Amazing, isn’t it? In the Bible, Matthew 7:7 says “Ask and it shall be given you; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you.” You attract the things that you think of. So positive thoughts will bring about positive things/events/people. Negative thoughts will bring about negative things/events/people. Remember “birds of the same feather flock together”? Think how much power you have to influence your life and that of others just by thinking positive. This is the principle behind “visualization” as a treatment modality. Just imagine & focus your mind on the state you want to be in and that is where you will be.
The thing we can most easily influence is our own thoughts, our prayers. The author of thehiddentruthbook.com blog writes “Quite simply, one should add to their prayers these elements of the law of attraction necessary to act as assistors for a positive outcome… when you pray, pray with conviction: believe that your prayer will be heard and will be answered, and give thanks for the requested issue as if the prayer has already been answered/received…” (Please visit his blogsite for more insights.)
This same author continues to write that “To further aid your prayers, avoid use of words that state “negatives” or “negations” because they confuse the power of affirmations within your prayers…. Avoid use of “no”, “not”, “none”, etc.” For example, avoid this prayer “Lord, don’t let me get sick with covid.” By saying this, you already visualized being sick with covid, which is what you don’t like. So pray instead “ Lord, keep me healthy and safe.” Even by just analyzing this latter sentence, you will understand why this is how our prayers should be- they should be affirming. This desired style of praying is not only for yourself but for others as well. Say affirming words to your children, your spouse, your friends. Remember what we stated earlier that your action will impact on everybody else in the universe, far and near. (Thoughts are energies and cannot be locked down even if there’s quarantine. They will travel beyond borders and this is good news.) So when we pray for others, let us pray in the affirmative, thinking specifically for healing and wellness and wholeness. Dear reader, “I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” (3 John 1:2)
