LAGAWE, Ifugao–The province successfully hosted the 29th Pedya Kamp (PK) in this municipality attended by more than 200 delegates from the province and other places like Isabela, Quezon, Manila and Vigan.
The PK kicked-off with a courtesy call to local officiaIs and the parish priest of Lagawe.
Gov. Pedro Mayam-o enjoined the participants composed of children with special needs and volunteers to take advantage of the various activities for their benefits. He stressed that even if they have disabilities, still they are creations of God.
The kids and volunteers rendered interpretative songs as gratitude for the warm welcome and generosity.
A maskarada parade showcasing the participants’ creative dresses, dancing and entertaining the locals while promoting the advocacy for the children with special needs highlighted the two- day event. Other activities included swimming, wellness, talent night, pedyalympics, cheerlympics, Sunday mass, open house and many more that promote learning to the participants.
The participants also visited some of the tourist destinations in Banaue and Kiangan.
The province hosted the same activity in 2014 in Kiangan.
The PK started in Dinalupihan, Bataan in 1991 with special children from selected parts of the country. Its mission is to give these children a wonderful experience while instilling community awareness about their special needs and talents. We introduce them the rich culture of our country by bringing them to different provinces, thereby giving them opportunities to interact with other people.
PK helps the children to become independent by spending time with other children and adults in an environment that has the qualities of both school and home; develop Christian values and sense of nationalism; develop their cognitive, affective, psycho-motor, social skills and talents and express themselves not only through song but also through performing and visual arts. **JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao
