KIANGAN, Ifugao, Aug. 27(PIA)- – Disturbed by the increasing rape cases in the province, the municipal government here through its Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office launched last August 24 the Men Opposed to Violence Everywhere (MOVE) encouraging all men to end rape and other domestic violence in the municipality
In partnership with the national line agencies and non government organizations, this aims to organize men from various sectors to campaign and work together towards the eradication of gender violence and to stop rape. This is also to protect families and the community from these social evils.
Partners from line agencies and NGOs pledged and signed a commitment of support to the Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) program of the government and to become strong and dynamic partners for a better today and a brighter tomorrow.
They committed to pursue moral uprightness by living by whatthey advocate and to be what they want other men to be, conscious by being aware of their commitment and responsibilities as MOVE members.
They vowed never to commit, condone or be silent about VAWC; practice equality by believing that all men and women are equal; respect for human rights by believing that everyone has the right to live a gender fair and violence-free society and sustained commitment through the ages.
The members will be going around to sitios of the different barangays to conduct information, education campaign, gather pledges of commitment and signature campaigns for all men to stop rape and end other domestic violence in the locality.
Data from the Philippine National Police last year indicated that “from 2016 to October 2019 show Ifugao recording 1.82 rape incidents committed per 100,000 population per month, or about three incidents of rape per month in Ifugao.” **JDP/DBC- PIA CAR, Ifugao
