BAGUIO CITY – Christmas came early for around 14 of the city’s indigent persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens.
They were the lucky beneficiaries of “Mobile Hope”, an advocacy initiated by councilor Arthur Allad-iw, that provides free wheelchairs, canes and crutches to those in need but are financially incapable.
The distribution was held Wednesday at the Sanggunian Panglungsod session hall at City Hall where City Council Sec. Brenner Bengwayan praised the program and encouraged the support of various sectors for its continued success.
Allad-iw, who chairs the local legislature’s committee on employment, livelihood, cooperatives and PWDs, thanked the sponsors including Senior Citizens Rep. Milagros Magsaysay who donated five wheelchairs with five more on the way; Cocolife Insurance Company, five wheelchairs, five canes and five crutches; businessman Paul Lalwani, three wheelchairs; Centermall manager Johan Teope, two wheelchairs and Engr. Arnel Pe-il who gave P5000.
He stressed that their generosity will go a long way in improving the lives of the recipients and will make the latters’ Christmas celebration much brighter and more joyful.
Allad-iw explained that a doctor from the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center was also present during the distribution to check on the beneficiaries and find out if they need more assistance that Mobile Hope can provide.**gaby keith
