La Trinidad, Benguet – The International Society for Southeast Asian Agricultural Sciences – Philippines Chapter (ISSAAS) and Benguet State University (BSU) are set to host the 2024 ISSAAS National Scientific Congress on September 11-13.
With the theme, “Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture: Uniting Science, Technology, Innovation, and Policy,” the congress aims to gather experts and stakeholders in the agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources (AANR) sector to exchange ideas and develop strategies for a more sustainable future.
The context of the congress theme is based on the current global population that stands at 7.6 billion and is expected to reach 8.6 billion by 2030, 9.8 billion by 2050, and 11.2 billion by 2100 (UN DESA). In 2010, scientists estimated that a 56% increase in food production by 2050 is needed to feed the growing population. Although experts believe that this increase is achievable with current agricultural practices, it could have catastrophic effects on the planet. In this context, the 2024 ISSAAS Conference focuses on resiliency and sustainability of agriculture through Science, Technology, Innovation, and Policy Formulation.
The Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) endorsed the congress through PASUC Advisory No. 106, s. 2024 that cited the congress as a platform to unite change-makers and future leaders in the Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources (AANR) sector. Building on the success of the 2023 conference, the event seeks to promote a holistic approach to agricultural challenges and advance scientific progress through research and publication.
Abstract submission for the congress is open until August 23, 2024.
ISSAAS is organized by scientists, technical experts, and other proponents of the Society’s goals in the broad field of agricultural sciences, whose activities are within the Southeast Asian region. The main objective of the Society is to encourage the holistic approach to problems and to promote the progress and development of science and technology related to agricultural sciences through research and publication, and the outcome is to be for regional agricultural development.**JSTabangcura
