The Bureau of Fire Protection – Baguio City Fire Station (BFP-BCFS) led by Fire Marshal FSupt Marisol Hernandez Odiver conducted a motorcade on December 5, 2024 to kick-off their campaign, ‘Oplan Paalala: Iwas Paputok.’ This initiative aims to raise awareness and promote safety during the holiday season, particularly in preventing fire-related incidents and injuries caused by the illegal use of firecrackers.
FSupt Odiver urges everyone to exercise caution this yuletide season and follow these safety guidelines:
*Buy and use Christmas lights or decorations that have been approved by the Department of Trade and Industry and have been marked with Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers;
*Avoid overloading electrical outlets;
*Do not smoke or light a candle near a Christmas tree, curtains, or decorations as this could cause fire;
*Avoid installing Christmas lights on a Christmas tree made of metal, as it could conduct electricity and cause harm;
*Turn off the Christmas lights and other electrical decorations when going to sleep or leaving the house;
*The use of sky lanterns is strictly prohibited by the BFP because they may fall onto objects that are flammable; and
*Do not use illegal firecrackers
The motorcade commenced at the Baguio City Fire Station Camp Allen and traversed through the Central Business District. The Baguio City Police Office, Sunshine Fire Volunteers, and the Baguio City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office joined the parade.
“Let us all have a safe and fire-free holiday season. Ang inyong Baguio’s Bravest and inyong palagi – palaging nakahandang pangalagaan ang kaligtasan ng mamamayan,” FSupt. Odiver said. **Mileyvonne Tiamzon
