Bontoc, Mountain Province – Kalimbatawa Village is a sight to behold; a tourist attraction due to the houses’ unique uniform color and structures. It is the site of core shelters, an alternative housing for the sinking victims of nearby Otucan.
The municipal government is improving and promoting the place, above and behind the settlement, as an eco-tourism center.
As many locals are currently wowed at the recent developments, entering the eco-village is not free. The entrance fee is P20.00.
The latest activity to be conducted there was the pre-valentine concert of local singers and artists who currently reside in Bauko and Baguio City. A rendition of love songs and country music echoed well the Valentine’s spirit. It was worth the P50.00 entrance fee.
The site was host to the Christmas Village bonanza last year where some 3,000 locals patronized and experienced the spirit of the season from December 16 to January 6, 2017, according to Tourism Officer Arsenia Addon.
Kalimbatawa may turn out to be a center of tourism activities in Bauko. From the village, hiking activities may be done to Sabangan or nearby barangays through eco-trails. One can view also the nearby Kapayawan Rice Fields below.
With its many beautiful sceneris, Bauko is pro-active in promoting itself as a tourism destination with Mayor Abraham Akilit as the prime mover.**Roger Sacyaten
