CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA)–Kalinga District Representative Allen Jesse Mangaoang shared his optimism of the silk industry as contributor to the economy and the province becoming a silk production hub in Luzon.
With the Kalinga State University modelling silk yarn production in its Rizal Campus, Mangaoang hopes the people of Kalinga will benefit from the economic benefits of the project and to see the province becoming a silk production hub in Luzon.
The production of silk and silkworm textile through the KSU silk filature facility will provide additional raw materials for Kalinga weavers, and further improve the quality of Kalinga textile.
“We are very glad that our province is eyed as one of the pilot areas for the revitalization of the silk industry,” Mangoang said, adding that he sees huge potential for the silk industry in terms of providing livelihood opportunities for farmers and weavers, as well as the silk farm as a viable tourist destination.
Mangaoang will talk about “Regional Commitments and Support to the Full Development of the Philippine Silk Industry” during the 4th Philippine Silk Summit on January 27, 2023 at the Dusit Thani, Makati City.
Every January, the nation celebrates Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTF) through Proclamation No. 313 Series of 2012 to promote textile production using natural textile fibers, technologies, and industries in the Philippines towards the revitalization of the local textile industry, inclusive growth through the generation of livelihood for Filipinos and to provide materials that nurture and promote a truly Filipino textile brand. **JDP/PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga
