TABUK CITY, Kalinga (PIA) – Kalinga is gearing up for the conduct of its biggest festival – the celebration of the province’s 30th founding anniversary and the staging of the sixth Bodong Festival this February.
“The agreed grand kick-off for both the Kalinga founding anniversary and sixth Bodong Festival will be on February 3,” said Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Flordeliza Moldero.
The festival is slated until February 20 and will be highlighted by a float parade, the Bodong Agro-Fair, a cultural parade, the ‘Diddiga di Kalinga’, the Miss Kalinga pageant, the Bodong Street Dance, Barangay Solidarity Night, drum and lyre competitions, and many more.
Other events are also being considered including trekking, biking, motorcross, and off-road, and other activities.
Organizers have invited several national officials to attend as guests of honor and speakers throughout the festival including President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Senator Loren Legarda, Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” M. Angara, Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, and former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson.
The theme for this year’s celebration and the line-up of events are still being finalized.
The province of Kalinga was founded on February 14, 1995 when Republic Act No. 7878 dividing Kalinga and Apayao into two regular provinces was signed into law.
In 2017, Kalinga started holding the Bodong Festival to celebrate its age-old indigenous peace-keeping system. **IOS-PIA CAR, Kalinga
