CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, – – Kalinga is one of the four fialists in the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) search for National Rice Achievers Award – Group B.
Provincial Rice Program Coordinator Joe Casibang said other finalists are Bataan, Camarines Norte and Zamboanga Sibugay.
Group B is for provinces with rice production area below 50,000 hectares. Kalinga devotes about 20,000 hectares to rice.
The search panel had selected the finalists from the 22 provinces nominated to the search. Evaluation covered the period 2017.
Casibang said the awarding is set for May 31 with P4 million cash award awaiting the winner.
DA started the search in 2011 to recognize the outstanding and significant contributions of the various stakeholders to the rice industry. It aims to capture the impact of its rice program interventions towards achieving national rice sufficiency.
It is recalled that Kalinga bagged the same award in 2012 and 2013. The province used its cash award in 2012 for the improvement of the access road leading to the provincial agricultural extension center and for the construction of the province’s Farmers Academy in 2013.**PIA Kalinga
