CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga,—This province participated actively during the week-long National Science and Technology Week held at the World Trade Center in Pasay, with Kalinga products faring well.
Jasmin Donaal, provincial Department of Science and Technology(DOST) director, said Shaquil Food Products was chosen as one of the five finalists out of 16 regional entries. The awards as regional winner and finalist were accepted by its owners, Breinda Alvendo Gup-ad and husband Rey Gup-ad, and witnessed by DOST-Cordillera Administrative Region(CAR) Director Nancy Bantog.
It can be recalled that Shaquil Food Products represented CAR for the Search for the Best SETUP Adoptor Award, and the first time for Kalinga to win as regional winner and adoptor since the institutionalization of the Award in 2012.
Out of six firms from CAR that joined the exhibits, various products of three firms from Kalinga were featured in the OneStore Hub that sold DOST-assisted products.
Our Tribe Food Products exhibited Kalinga Blend (coffee), Shaquil Food Products (variants of fruit wines), and JAC Farms (Arabica and Robusta coffee), Donaal said.
Kalinga coffee was also featured in the Innovation Lounge where beverages from DOST-assisted products were served.
DOST Usec. for Regional Operations Brenda Nazareth-Manzano chose Kalinga Blend as tokens from CAR for the guests and the coffee product of Nalyawan Multi-Purpose Cooperative from Tanudan for speakers during the forum.
Donaal said the Community Empowerment for Science and Technology (CEST) project in Tanudan, one among five CEST projects in the Philippines was featured during the presentation of accomplishments in the forum on CEST.
