LA TRINIDAD, Benguet– Recognizing the importance of the Bible as a source of life-giving principles where core moral and spiritual values emanate, local officials here set the last week of January as Bible Week.
The La Trinidad Bible Week is embodied in Municipal Ordinance No. 28-2016. It is authored by Councilor Roderick Awingan who expressed that if read, meditated on and obeyed, the Bible can transform lives and the country for the better.
The celebration of the Bible Week seeks to introduce the transforming power of God’s word through all means possible like creating activities inculcating awareness and understanding of the importance of the Scriptures in nation-building, he added. It will also encourage the opening of the Bible where values from the Word of God are embedded.
Among the suggested activities are overnight prayer rally/meeting; bBble quiz, poster making contests; inter-church parade or motorcade; display of posters; Bible reading and symposia; distribution of scripture selections or booklets and preaching to prison inmates, patients in hospital, public markets and transport terminals; sports event in increasing Bible awareness; Bible reading program or Gospel sharing.
A steering committee composed of LGU personnel will take charge in carrying out the plans and programs of the Bible Week. **By Susan C. Aro
