LAGAWE, Ifugao – Lagawe’s Knight of Columbus (KC) Council 6113 held recently a retreat to provide a sound direction to members.
“While recognizing the importance of continuous learning and interaction, the KC believes that an activity as this one definitely serves the best interests of its members and ultimately is helpful to the cause of preparing them to ensure the promotion of the greater good.” Grand Knight MarcelinoLunag said.
Venue of the one-day activity was at the Divine Mercy Shrine in Lagawe.
“On this very important day, we pause to reflect and recall all our actions, programs and activities as we cherish shared values worth pushing for,” a member said.
“The KC looks forward to 2025 and beyond with all the dedicated members who are part of our on-going programs,” he stressed. “We will continue to help others in the community, particularly the poor, sick and the needy, through our consistent efforts of goodness.”
For a number of key KC members such development really works splendidly in many ways.
At the retreat, KC members were treated to enlightening lectures.
Bishop Valentine Democ of the Archdiocese of Bontoc and Lagawe and Fr. John Habawel, the KC’s Chaplain spoke. Fr. Habawel is a renowned motivational speaker on various spiritual concerns. He is the author of “Abba, Take my Hand,” where exceptional lessons of life can be gleaned from this must-read book.
While boosting connectivity among officers and members, the retreat was further intended to raise public awareness of the KC’s relevance.
Themed “Deepening the Understanding of the KC’s Four Principles” this retreat is essential to ensure that present and future members enrich their lives with an enlightened understanding of God’s plan for humanity.
At the same time, it will encourage others in this predominantly Catholic town of 20,000, to join the KC. KC membership starts with the First Order conferment.
A strong interest in spreading the Word of God as well as a deep understanding of helping impoverished folks will be a new member’s portal to the KC. Such will be invaluable in promoting the mission of the KC.
It is refreshing to see God-bearing individuals engage in well-meaning chores other than attending wakes and the like. It’s high time for them to translate their faith into actions. Already, many of them, apart from Lunag, are actively spreading the message of hope, love and joy to others. They include Andres Dango, Dennis Dacawe, William Bola, Wilfred Unghiyon, Benjamin Basilio, deputy grand knight and Harry Dunuan and Albert Lumauig.
The KC faces a unique batch of challenges that make enlistment of new faces particularly important. Notwithstanding the dismal attendance during meetings, there are reasons to be hopeful. Going with the most practical solution, it should infuse young blood into the organization. Young, vibrant knights who can connect to the spiritual in their lives, through their conscience, discernment and faith in God. Not to mention the fact that they are imbued with the commitment to help in the formation of each person to become socially responsible too. Such move shall resort in a creative break through. The dividend is always considered when planning something. This is simply a fact. **By Anthony A. Araos
