LAMUT, Ifugao, Feb. 2 (PIA) — Youth in this municipality performed an active role to help in coping with the current Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
In his interview during the Laging Handa Network Briefing News today with PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar, Lamut Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation president Jake Louie Casumpang said they involved themselves in mental awareness campaign and community services during this pandemic.
During the lockdown, rape and suicide cases in the municipality rose, Casumpang said. So together with the other SK leaders, they conducted mental health advocacy training for the young people. They also went to the barangays to help in the conduct of mental awareness seminars.
The Lamut youth also conducted an online “tiktok”contest to create awareness among the youth about COVID-19.
Casumpang shared that the SK re-aligned some of its funds for unimplemented programs like socio-cultural and sports development activities for the renovation, repair and clean-up of the quarantine facility.
The quarantine facility was made possible through the efforts of the barangay local government unit and the SK Federation to serve residents coming home from other places.
In response also to the call of helping typhoon victims in Cagayan, the youth also initiated relief operation. “This was not a part of our plan but we pursued with the help of our constituents,” he said.
Casumpang encouraged the youth to support SK activities and to follow minimum health standards and protocols to protect themselves and their families from COVID-19. **JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao
