The local weavers in the province are being notified to prepare for the Ethnic Fashion Show in the first week of April as part of the Lang-ay Festival 2017.
This is the gist of the message of Paulino Tumapang, Jr., chairperson of the Lang-ay Festival Organization, who pushed for the prioritization of local weavers and designers to participate in the event. He said that the event is to promote the local weaving industry.
In past Ethnic Fashion Shows, local weavers showcased through their respective models locally designed clothings, bags and accessories, gowns and barongs and other wearables laced with local fabrics such as langkit and others.
Juliet Lucas, Provincial Director of the Department of Trade and Industry here, said that those who are interested to participate in the event to showcase their respective wearables may obtain forms at the DTI office.
Local weavers may design their own products with themselves or others as models.
Meanwhile, the provincial Steering Committee formed to prepare for the commemoration of the 50th Foundation Anniversary of the province and the Lang-ay Festival 2017 has been meeting since the launching of the twin events in October 29, 2016.
The Lang-ay Festival this year is scheduled on April 3-9, 2017 with the 7th reserved for the Foundation Day celebrations.
With the theme: “Reminiscing and Fostering our Cultural Integrity”, the twin events endeavor to let the people of Mountain Province witness the transition of the province for the last 50 years since its separation from the old Mountain Province in 1967.**Roger Sacyaten
