BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – – Let the Bible guide you in your daily life, the Baguio City Ecumenical Council (BCEC) reminded the public as it led the culmination of National Bible Month celebration at the People’s Park in Baguio on January 29.
Reverend Genesis Mark Langbao of the Episcopal Church in the Philippines, the BCEC president, said that inspired by the theme, “God’s Word: A Breath of New Life”, they hope to encourage the public especially young people to bring in God’s words to their lifefor their spiritual growth, and as their guide in their everyday life.
Langbao shared that with the advent of technology, reading the Bible is becoming a challenge, particularly to young people. “It is indeed challenging especially our new generations, mga GenZ, even mga younger, mga millennials din, parang naging boring na sa kanila ang libro. Naging lazy na ang mga kabataan ngayon to read the words of God,” he said.
He advised parents and guardians to become role models, and to guide their children in attending mass, in joining Bible readings, and other religious or charismatic groups, and activities.
With people hooked up on cellular phones and gadgets, there are digital apps that they can download for Bible verses reading and listening, he added.
Baguio Sangguniang Kabataan federation vice president Gian Francine Lampaz, in his inspirational message, encouraged her fellow youth to use the Bible and the words of God as their guide in moving towards the right path for a better future.
“Today, we are not just closing a month- long celebration, but we are also lighting a spark that will continue to illuminate our lives. Let the Bible be our compass that will guide us to the right path,” Lampaz said.
The BCEC, in partnership with the City Government of Baguio through the Baguio Character Council, opened the celebration with a Bible Enthronement Service participated by representatives from the different BCEC member Christian churches.
The program held in the afternoon was filled with charismatic songs, entertainment numbers and inspirational messages from the BCEC, city government and SK officials and church leaders.
There were also booths set up for spiritual guidance and provision of free Bible and other religious reading materials to the public.
The BCEC earlier led a Week of Prayer for Christian Unity wherein from January 22 to 27, mass and prayer offerings were held in different Christian churches in Baguio City.
