BAGUIO CITY – The City Government has declared the last week of November as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Week in the City via City Council Resolution No. 266 series of 2018.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan signed the resolution authored by Vice Mayor Edison Bilog and all of the city councilors which aims to support the LGBT community in its endeavors.
Last year, the City also adopted Ordinance No. 13-17 which “prohibits discrimination and enforces equality before the law and equal protection of the law without any discrimination in the City of Baguio on the basis of religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity, health status, disability and age…”
The said measure was aimed as a “human rights-based approach for the elimination of all forms of discrimination to ensure full and effective equality of opportunity, participation and inclusion in society.”
The new resolution is a show of the City’s continued support to the group’s aspirations and activities by designating a specific week in November every year for them to celebrate their vision of equality.
It also the City’s way to “widen the knowledge of the public on the rights and advocacies of the LGBT community in the City thus empowering them,” the resolution noted.
