BAGUIO CITY, August 1 – The whole lane of Session Road from the frontage of the Development Bank of the Philippines going up Session Road Rotunda is closed to vehicular traffic every Sunday starting August 4, 2019.
Meanwhile, vehicles going down from Session Road Rotunda to Malcolm Square as well as those crossing from Mabini Street will be allowed according to City Director Allen Co of the Baguio City Police Office.
Vehicles going up from Calderon Street will not be allowed to enter Session Road, Co said.
The road closure was upon the order of Mayor Benjamin Magalong for the experimental plan to pedestrianize Session Road as part of his agenda to provide effective traffic management system in the city by encouraging and promoting walking especially at the central business district.
With the experimental road closure, Magalong also eyes to achieve his target in revitalizing the environment by improving quality of air at the central business district and lower the amount of vehicular emission of air pollutants.
The BCPO assumed moderate to heavy traffic along other major roads at the CBD such as Harrison Road, Magsaysay Avenue, Legarda Road, Assumption Road, Bonifacio Street, City Hall Loop towards Bautista Drive, Otek Street and Abanao as a result of the partial closure of Session Road.
Police personnel, traffic aides of the city government and the Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) are mandated to man traffic flow during the experimental road closure as well as the installation of advance traffic advisory within the major thoroughfares in the city. ** Jessa Mardy Samidan
