BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – – With the opening of the academic year 2022 – 2023, Mayor Benjamin Magalong advises students especially the non – Baguio residents to be safety-conscious and to protect themselves from the rainy weather.
Magalong assured in a media interview that the city government through the Baguio City Police Office, is on top of the situation as far as peace and order is concerned, but it is important that the students themselves also ensure their security and safety.
“Make sure that when you come up to Baguio be conscious of your security and safety. Mag-ingat lang palagi and rest assured that we have a very peaceful and safe Baguio”, Magalong said.
The mayor also advises students to keep away from bars and vices. “Concentrate on your studies and use your money well”, he said.
With the rainy season, Magalong gives pointers especially for those new in Baguio to always keep themselves dry and warm.
“Sa mga baguhan na mag-aaral sa Baguio, make sure that you have all weather attires, kasi rainy season na uli and we have the highest amount of rainfall. Keep yourself dry and warm. Magkakaroon na naman ng influx ng flu. Tumataas ang flu cases natin”, Magalong said.
Commission on Higher Education (CHED – CAR) Education Supervisor II Christopher Depnag informed that there are 17 higher educational institutions in Baguio City with a total of 63,700 enrollees during academic year 2022 – 2023.
The number does not include those enrolled in Technical – Vocational Education and Training (TVET) at Technical Education and Skills Development Authority schools and private tech – voc institutions.
The Department of Education – Cordillera data also show there are 68 public schools inside Baguio City that are ready to accept kinder to senior high school students for the August 29, 2023 opening of classes. **JDP/CCD-PIA CAR
