Mayor Benjamin Magalong has emphasized that the Summer Capital’s annual Baguio Flower Festival or ‘Panagbenga’ celebration is private sector led and that its entire management should be left to them.
“The role and responsibility of local government is to ensure that we hold a very peaceful and safe festival and we’re going to deliver that commitment,” he assured in a media forum just after the formal launching of Panagbenga 2024, Dec. 18, at the Baguio City Hall grounds by the city government in partnership with the Baguio Flower Festival Foundation Inc. (BFFFI).
With the theme, “Celebrating Traditions, Embracing Innovation”, it envisages the Panagbenga Festival as a beacon for the harmonious coexsistence of the old and the new and an invitation to experience the richness of Baguio’s floral and cultural heritage and to participate in the innovative spirit that promises a thriving and resilient future for the city.
In line with the festival’s launch, the Mayor issued executive order no. 163, series of 2023, reconstituting Panagbenga 2024’s committees representing a significant step in ensuring the celebration’s successful organization and execution.
The order also emphasizes the city government’s commitment in fostering a collaborative and inclusive event.
Highlights of next year’s Panagbenga festival include the Grand Opening Day Parade and Ceremony on February 3; Grand Street Dance Parade, Feb. 24; Grand Floral Float Parade, Feb. 25; Session Road in Bloom, Feb. 26 to March 3; Closing Program and Awarding Ceremonies on March 3.**Gaby B. Keith
