Bontoc, Mountain Province – The Municipal Health Office (MHO) issued a crucial reminder to the public regarding the prevention of dengue and typhoid.
Municipal Nutrition Action Officer designate Venous Cofulan disclosed that the municipality has recorded a total of 54 dengue cases and 12 typhoid cases since January 2024. Notably, the month of June saw the highest number of dengue cases with 23 total cases, while the month of April recorded the peak of typhoid cases with 6 cases.
During the Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) meeting on June 26, 2024, Cofulan and Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Diga Kay Gomez, underscored the importance of preventive measures to curb the further spread of these infections within the community.
The MHO emphasized the 5S Strategy against Dengue and other vector-borne diseases, which includes Search and Destroy breeding sites; Self-protection from mosquito bites; Seek early Medical Consultation; Support fogging and Spraying, and Stay Hydrated.
Cofulan further reported that Bontoc Local Government Unit (LGU) through the MHO in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) – Provincial Office, Provincial Health Office (PHO), Rural Health Midwives (RHMs), Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), barangay officials, and other partner stakeholders have been conducting continuous massive Information Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign on the preventive measures of dengue and typhoid, OplanTaob, turnover of Ollyset nets and larvicide to the different barangays as an intervention.** Christy Mae C.
