Bontoc – The 11th Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Mountain Province chaired by Vice-Governor Francis O. Tauli, has just approved the declaration of Mountain Province as under a State of Calamity in their special session at the Session Hall, Legislative Building, SPO, 28 July 2023.
The action of the SP was in response to the resolution of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) Council chaired by Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr., which ultimate aim is to address the adverse impact of Super Typhoon “Egay” (International name: Doksuri) in the province.
PDRRM Officer Edward C. Chumawar, Jr. was in attendance during the session to readily answer queries relative to the sought declaration.
In an interview with Provincial Legal Officer Tomas A. Kiwang, Jr., he explained that the declaration of the state of calamity will be beneficial to consumers as there will be no increase in the prices of basic commodities. He also explained that the Provincial Government can now utilize the 30% Quick Response Fund which will be used for the conduct of relief and recovery programs and activities.**Mountain Province Provincial Information Office
