BONTOC, Mountain Province (PIA) — The lone state college in Mountain Province was recently conferred the university status and is now called the Mountain Province State University (MPSU).
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) en banc made the conferment on August 27, 2024. MPSU has met and complied with the CHED standards for conversion to a state university required by the law based on the evaluation and validation of the CHED Composite Team.
“On behalf of the Commission, I congratulate the board, faculty and staff, and students of Mountain Province State Polytechnic College for your conversion from a college into a university. This is a testament to your continuous commitment to delivering quality education to the people of Mountain Province,” stated CHED Chairperson J. Prospero E. de Vera III.
CHED-Cordillera Regional Director Dimetrio P. Anduyan Jr. also expressed his congratulations to MPSU for achieving such milestone.
MPSPC President Edgar G. Cue extended his sincere gratitude to several key individuals and groups who have worked for the realization of a dream. He thanked Congressman Maximo Y. Dalog Jr., Atty. Cyphrine Maxcel Y. Dalog-Duclan, and leading figures of Mountain Province including Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan Jr.
He also acknowledged past leaders of the province, CHED officials led by de Vera III, and Anduyan, the MPSPC Board of Trustees headed by Commissioner Marita R. Canapi, former MPSPC presidents, administrators, and officials.
Cue noted that the College’s vision, which began as a modest community college, has now become a reality. He also appreciated the efforts and support of all stakeholders — faculty, non-teaching staff, students, alumni, and both local and national leaders. Their dedication and contributions have been crucial in reaching this milestone.
As the school begins this new chapter which reflects the collective commitment to academic excellence and community service, Cue promised to continue striving for ongoing improvements and greater achievements.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed on August 1, 2024 Republic Act No. 12016 amending RA No. 10583, also known as “An Act Converting the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College in the municipality of Bontoc, Mountain Province into a state university to be known as the Mountain Province State University with campuses in the municipalities of Tadian, Bauko, Paracelis and Barlig, all located in Mountain Province and appropriating funds therefor..”
