BAGUIO CITY -With the Cordillera home to various indigenous tribes and rich cultural heritage, the Museo Kordilyera of the University of the Philippines-Baguio (UP-Baguio) has added an educational facet to the tourism experience in Baguio City.
Along with the opening of Panagbenga 2018 and city-wide artistic and cultural activities in celebration of Baguio as a creative city, Museo Kordilyera launched on Friday its second exhibit entitled “Feasts of Merit” which will run until February next year.
“Feasts of Merit” demonstrates the industry and the desire of the Cordillera people to give back to the community. It focuses on exploring the connection between wealth, status, and feasting in the Cordillera.
UP-Baguio Chancellor Raymundo Rovillos shared that the exhibit is a result of collective faculty research on three feasts in the Cordillera. The Hongan di Kadangyan of the Ifugaos is the center piece of the exhibit while the Bontoc Chono and Ibaloi Peshit serve as supplement exhibits.
The exhibit “serves as a platform for discussion of issues related to interpretation of culture and the transformations that are now rapidly changing the culture of the Cordillera,” Museo Kordilyera Director Dr. Analyn Salvador-Amores emphasized during the exhibit launching.
Department of Tourism Cordillera Regional Director Marie Venus Tan expressed support in the exhibit as it does not only educate tourists but also promotes cultural sensitivity. She added that the exhibit should be the first stop for tourist so that they can better appreciate the culture if they visit the rest of the Cordilleras. **PIA CAR
