Bontoc, Mountain Province – An organization of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW)- returnees in this capital town received the third and last tranche of financial assistance from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) which is 30% of the approved grant amounting to 150,000 on January 25, 2024.
The Central Bontoc Overseas Returnees Organization based in Barangay Samoki is the grateful recipient of the OWWA’s Tulong Pangkabuhayan Para sa Pag-Unlad ng Samahang OFWs (Tulong PUSO) Program of the National Reintegration Center of OFWs (NRCO).
This program aims to provide livelihood financial assistance to support the proposed business plan for both the start-up and expansion of OFW groups.
The Central Bontoc Overseas Returnees Organization, started with a small business of selling tuyo and corn grits, until the organization’s business booms and now selling by sack of tuyo and corn grits.
OWWA Regional Director Martel Dasayon and Bontoc Mayor Jerome “Chagsen” Tudlong, Jr., led the turnover of the last tranche of the financial grant to Central Bontoc Overseas Returnees Organization President Josephine Fagsay, Samoki Barangay Kagawad Daniela Chomacog and other members of the organization.
In his message, Mayor Tudlong thanked the OWWA for all the support they are giving to the OFW returnees. He added that the financial assistance will help the organization to grow what they have started.
With this, he encouraged the officers and members of the organization to utilize the money for its intended purpose and make their business prosper.
In response, Fagsay extended the profound gratitude of the organization to the OWWA and the Bontoc LGU for their support and assured them that the financial grant they received would be used for the expansion of their business.
Also in attendance during the turnover were personnel from the OWWA and Bontoc LGU.
Meanwhile, Labor and Employment Officer II Gladys Sawi from the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the Bontoc LGU, the organization previously received the first tranche equivalent to 20% and the second tranche which is 50% of the P150,000 approved financial grant. ** Alpine L.
