BAGUIO CITY – – The Overseas Workers and Welfare Administration- Cordillera Regional Office is calling for nominations for this year’s search for Model OFW Family of the Year Awards or MOFYA.
The MOFYA search aims to give due recognition to the contribution of Overseas Filipino Workers to the economic and social development of the country as well as the OFW families’ effort to become successful in life, in maintaining family solidarity and wholesomeness and as active members of the community despite the social costs of migration.
Locally dubbed as “Parangal sa Matatag na Pamilyang Pilipino”, nominees will be judged by a Regional Search and Selection Committee composed of public and private sector representatives, based on how wholesome the OFW family and their solidarity; on their civic, community involvement; on the success in education or profession of the OFW and/or the members of the family, and on how successful is the family in managing their finances.
Special awards will also be given to the OFW Family with outstanding achievement in community projects and in entrepreneurship.
Nominations are open to both the land-based and sea-based MOFYA categories, whether on active work abroad or currently on vacation in the country.
Anyone can nominate an OFW family for the search as long as he can support it with an endorsement of family solidarity from local government units, civil society organizations, religious groups and community organizations, among others.
Aside from the plaque of recognition and prizes for the 2018 MOFYA regional winners, they will also earn the right to represent the region in the national MOFYA tilt.
OWWA – CAR OIC Regional Director Evelyn Laranang outlined that giving recognition to OFWs who are also a major contributor to nation building, is part of the continuing program of the government to ensure the protection of the rights and welfare of Filipino migrant workers and their families.
Laranang also calls for more nominations this year. **PIA CAR
