BAGUIO CITY– The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration- Cordillera is calling for nominations to the 2017 Regional Search for the Model OFW Family of the Year Award (MOFYA).
The search aims to give recognition to OFW families who are able to maintain strong relationship and together achieve a better status in life and are active members of their community despite the social cost of migration.
Nominated families will be screened by a regional selection and screening committee based on the wholesomeness of OFW Family Relations and Solidarity; the civic/community involvement of OFW and Family; Success in Education or Profession of OFW and/or family members, and Success in Managing Family Finances.
For nomination criteria, the OFW must be the head of the family, either the mother or the father, including widow/widower; he/she may be an active OWWA member (presently employed overseas) or a former OFW who has at least four year experience working abroad or an OFW returnee of less than 10 years at the time of nomination.
OFW families can only be nominated twice to the MOFYA. Those related up to third degree of consanguinity and affinity to employees of OWWA, the Department of Labor and Employment and its other attached agencies cannot be accepted as nominees.
An OFW/former OFW who is currently holding an elective or appointive position in national or local office will not also be accepted as a nominee.
Two OFW families, one land–based and one sea–based, will be selected as the 2017 Cordillera Model OFW Family of the Year. Aside from the prizes at stake, they will also represent the region in the national MOFYA search.
Special awards will also be given to OFW Family with outstanding achievement in community projects as well as those with outstanding achievement in entrepreneurship.
The last MOFYA search was held in 2015 and the Cordillera winners then were the family of Marilou Collo of Luba, Abra for the land – based category and the family of Silvino Calica Jr of Baguio City for the sea –based category. **K Valdres & Y. Yusuf- PIA CAR – UC Interns
