BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Synoptic Station here affirmed the official start of the warm and dry season as it advised the public to avoid heat stress and practice optimal consumption of water.
Engr. Larry Esperanza of PAGASA – Baguio bared in the Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council 1st Quarter Full Council Meeting here Thursday that PAGASA already issued a press statement on the termination of the Northeast monsoon and the beginning of the warm and dry season last March 21.
Esperanza shared the PAGASA forecasted average minimum and maximum temperature in the country and with the highlighted mountainous Luzon where the highlands of Cordillera belongs.
Based on the PAGASA Climate Forum, Mountainous Luzon where Baguio City Benguet and other highlands of Cordillera belong, will have an average extreme temperature of 26.8 to 29.0 degrees Celsius for the month of April and around 26.4 to 28.4 degrees Celsius in May.
Though there is still a chance of rain due to localized thunderstorms and a forecast of zero to one tropical depression, expected rainfall is below normal and more dryer days (an average of around 20 to 25 days) are expected in Cordillera for the month of April, Esperanza added.
With the dry and humid weather, the PAGASA also reminds the public to take precautionary measures to minimize heat stress. Likewise, to optimize the daily use of water for personal and domestic consumption.

With the increase in fire incidents in the region and the onset of the dry season, the regional DRRM Council activated its Inter – Agency Task Group for the prevention and suppression of fire incidents, which at the same time, will look into the possible effect of the El Niño.
The CRDRRMC, in the said meeting, also approved the action plan for the IATG that was presented by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources as the task group’s lead agency.
