Members of the Pasa-Kalye Group of Artists successfully launched a painting exhibition with the theme, “Parabur ti Pamilya” at SM Baguio on November 19, 2023.
The exhibit hopes to showcase the concept of family that goes beyond the blood relations while interpreting the meaning of a blessing to them and their families.
Featured artists include Mr. Roland Bay-an, a legendary Ibaloi artist who has been painting his entire life focusing mainly on the community lives of his people. Mr. Bay-an’s long time advocacy has been to paint the cultures and practices of the Ibaloi tribe and has been encouraging the younger artists to do the same. “I am not a graduate of an art institution or university but I have culture related stories to tell”, he said. “I am an Ibaloi, there’s no better way to showcase what our family/ancestors had been doing than to make visual representations of it”, he added.
Another purpose of the exhibition is to support the Ibagiw Creative Festival of the City of Baguio and to express the group’s appreciation to the unending support of SM in promoting creativity through the local artists of the Cordillera.
Simultaneously, along with the “Parabur ti Pamuilya Exhibit”, the “Daddat-at” was also launched at the same event that showcased a lot of local authors with their captivating books encapsulating the rich tradition of story-telling in the region.
Ms. Maricar Docyogen, the president of the Pasa-Kalye group of Artists and one of the exhibitors said, “this exhibition marks a significant day within the annual Ibagiw festival’s activities as the literary art sector has finally joined”.
Supporting the exhibit were city councilors Hon. Vladimir “Tangguyob” Cayabas, Hon. Betty Lourdes Flores Tabanda, Hon. Leandro Yangot among other city officials and SM management team.**Tan Dulag
