CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga (PIA)– The municipality of Pasil in this town is adjudged the regional best community for the Community Enhancement through Science and Technology (CEST) program of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
The Pasil CEST along with other regional winners were hailed during the virtual recognition of STI Champions in CAR during the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) in the region on September 21-24.
DOST-Kalinga earlier awarded Pasil a plaque of recognition and a check amounting to P200,000.00.
Delia Wail of thePasil Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PAMPCO) shared that with the assistance from DOST, they ventured on heirloom rice and its by-products. Now, their products are labeled and packaged for export.
Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Marjorie Silawon said PAMPCO’s heirloom products are being distributed to malnourished children as food supplement on their feeding program. Validating CEST impact to the beneficiary-communities, it was noted that there is 53 decrease decrease in number of wasted and severely wasted children in Pasil.
Kalinga Provincial Science and Technology Center is also the regional winner as best CEST implementer.
Meanwhile, theTabuk Concrete Products located at Appas, Tabuk City is awarded as the Provincial Best Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) adoptor in Kalinga with an incentive of P10,000.00 and a plaque of recognition.
Owned and managed by Carlo Brian Gamon, the enterprise availed of DOST’s assistance under SETUP in 2012.
Seeing the booming infrastructure development in this city, Gamon, a licensed physical therapist turned businessman, ventured into hollow blocks making. With DOST’s continuing assistance, he employed workers, procured additional equipment and machines and expanded his business producing other concrete products. He is now one of the major suppliers of concrete products in the city.
