The President and Agriculture Secretary Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has emphasized the need for the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) to pursue initiatives that would develop the agriculture sector in the region.
The President stated in his message read by Presidential Adviser for Northern Luzon Assistant Secretary Ana Carmela Remigio on the 36th Founding Anniversary celebration of the region in Apayao that the Cordillera region’s vast potential in hydropower, irrigation, and agriculture should continue to be tapped for the benefit of all.
“Many of our brothers and sisters here are engaged in farming which sustains not only this region but the entire country, that is why as President and concurrent Agriculture Secretary, I am relentlessly pushing and prioritizing the development of our agricultural plans. We need to invest in the development, productivity, and modernization of our agricultural sector,” the message read.
During the 35th anniversary of the Department of Agriculture Cordillera (DA-CAR), Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban praised the officials and employees of the Regional Field Office for making changes to strengthen the region’s food value chain.
“By improving our farmers’ market links and building infrastructure, our farmlands will yield not only crops but also opportunities that will have a positive ripple effect throughout our country.” So, I humbly request that you continue to join me and the rest of the government in our efforts to make life better, brighter, and more productive for every Filipino. “You can be confident that this Administration will work for the advancement of every Cordilleran in the coming years,” the President and Agriculture Secretary added in their message.
For the past year, President Marcos Jr. monitored the performance of DA-CAR in its aggressive initiatives to rebuild and recast the region’s food value chain through the provision of starter seeds, starter livestock, new technologies, and farm machinery to food-producing communities throughout the region.
Guided by the policies of the Marcos administration, the Regional Agriculture Department helped to improve the enterprises of more than 91,000 farmers and 1,500 farmer cooperatives and organizations in 2022 alone. The initiatives also gave farmers and their communities the capital, leadership, and opportunities they needed to thrive under challenging circumstances and fluctuating inflation. **JTLlanes
