BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) Cordillera is urging pharmacies licensed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to get accredited as PhilHealth GAMOT (Guaranteed and Accessible Medications for Outpatient Treatment) provider under the PhilHealth Yaman ng Kalusugan (YAKAP) program.
During an orientation on August 26, 2025, PhilHealth CAR Regional Vice President Dr. Dominga Gadgad said this will address the concern of PhilHealth members that rural health units (RHUs) cannot adequately supply their required medicines.
“We are opening the accreditation for our pharmacies to provide the medicine, and we will be paying you,” Gadgad stated.
The program aims to ensure that members can obtain their medicines from accredited pharmacies, with PhilHealth covering the costs.
The program is linked to the existing YAKAP benefit package but expands coverage to include additional medications identified as essential for members’ needs.
Requirements for accreditation as a GAMOT provider include FDA and/or DOH license, Provider Data Record which is an application form downloadable from official PhilHealth website, notarized performance commitment, certification of availability of GAMOT medicines, among others.
A key feature of the GAMOT program is its planned mobile application, designed to enhance portability and accessibility.
“If someone from Baguio is in Palawan and forgets to get their medicine here, they can buy it there in Palawan, and PhilHealth will pay that pharmacy,” Gadgad explained.
Pharmacies are encouraged to connect with PhilHealth to facilitate prompt and efficient payments through digitalization.
“We want payments to be fast because PhilHealth says payments should be fast, fair, and we should provide the same service to our members,” she emphasized.
