CPP/NPA surrenderers
KIANGAN, IFUGAO – Another NPA member operating in the West Chico Line, Bauko-Sagada-Besao of Mountain Province voluntarily surrendered to government authorities.
A certain Wilbert Deuna Bautista of Barangay Pag-asa, Quezon Avenue, Quezon City, a member of the Squad Dos, Rehiyon Sentro De Grabidad (SDG) of the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC) voluntarily surrendered on October 23, 2017 at 1.00 o’clock in the afternoon. The surrender was facilitated through the concerted efforts of the Local Government Unit of Sagada, PNP personnel, this Unit and a concerned citizen.
Prior to the surrender, Wilbert Deuna Bautista was alarmed when NPA leaders agreed to bomb the tapping point of HEDCOR at Barangay Utocan Norte, Bauko, Mtn. Province. He later realized that the economic sabotage was made possible because the HEDCOR did not give in to NPA leaders’ extortion demands. He was even stopped by the NPA leaders from visiting his son who was confined at one of the hospitals in Metro Manila. It prompted Wilbert Deuna Bautista to run away from his group until he reached Sitio Mabbay, Poblacion, Sagada, Mountain Province where he was fetched by law enforcers.
Col Leopoldo A Imbang Jr., Commanding Officer of 503rdInfantry Brigade encouraged the remaining NPA members to lay down their arms and join the government in nation-building. He even appealed that their families are eager to be with them in the coming Christmas Season. He said, “In this coming Christmas season, may we all realize that change won’t come in the picking up arms, but in laying them down. We should unite as one nation in building a better tomorrow for our children, after all, we are all Filipinos”.
A close coordination with other line government agencies and local government units is ongoing for the initial assistance from the local integration program. **CMO 54IB
