Vehicular accident
A case of VTA resulting in multiple damage to property with multiple physical injuries transpired along Lower Buhagan Road, Baguio City at about 10:10 PM of January 14, 2018. An Isuzu Forward High side truck loaded with sacks of rice bearing plate no. WPA-449, driven by Leonides Madera Tan, 37, married, driver and resident of Villa Ramos Village, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija while going down Buhagan Road allegedly had loose brakes. The driver allegedly directed the vehicle to the right most part of the road where it bumped an electrical post of BENECO in-front of the APCO Hardware and Pines Home Furnishing. Due to the strong impact the electrical post was broken and fell on the road and the cable wires connected to it dragged another electrical post with three transformers installed along the private driveway of Baguio City Academy and two other posts at the right side of the Toyota Motors showroom causing these to fall on the road.
The vehicle continued rolling down the road and it hit another electrical post on the left side of Double I (Ihaw-Ihaw) then it fell on its right side and skidded forward in-front of the Agrix Building where it hit a parked Yamaha Mio motorcycle with license plate no. 7085 PV (V2) and a Yamaha 150cc with plate no. AU 20772 (V3) which it dragged towards the parallel-parked vehicles in-front of the Agrix building. It also hit the rear portion of a Toyota Corolla sedan with license plate no. TTB-770 (V3). Due to the strong impact, the Corolla was pushed forward and its front hit the rear bumper of a Toyota Tamaraw FX wagon with temporary plate no. 131204 (V5) that in tualso hit the front portion of the front bumper of a Toyota Innova wagon with license plate nr. ZFJ-711 (V6), which was continuously pushed forward hitting the rear bumper of a Toyota Tamaraw FX wagon with plate nr. UKC-268 (V7) that in turn also hit the rear bumper of a Nissan Pathfinder Pick-up with license plate no. PNC-893 (V8).
All in all, eight motor vehicles, four BENECO electrical posts and one PLDT cable post were damaged. The driver of the truck with his two helpers were brought to BGHMC for treatment by responding personnel of 911 on-Call and BCEMS through their ambulance. The two helpers were identified as Cesar Orsame Novilla, 47, single, and Joven Cañeza Toquero, 22, single, both residents of San Jose, Nueva Ecija. All the injured victims were admitted for further treatment and observation.
Drowning incident
On January 14, 2017 at about 9:30 AM, Tabuk CPS received a report of a drowning incident at around 6:30 AM of same date at Chico river, Brgy. Naneng, Tabuk City, Kalinga. The victim was identified as Robert Gupa-al Tocyapao, 46, married and resident of Brgy. Balinciagao, Pasil, Kalinga. The cadaver of the victim was found at about 9:45AM of same date along the Chico River at Sitio Balatoc Balani, Brgy. Lucog, Tabuk City, Kalinga. Investigation disclosed that the victim together with seven others on board a wooden boat were crossing the river to have a picnic at the other side of the river but the boat accidentally capsized. The victim was carried by the current downriver while his companions were able to swim to safety.
Structural fire
On January 15, 2018 at about 2:30 AM, a structural fire occurred at Purok 4 Cresencia Village, Baguio City wherein eight residential houses were burned. The fire allegedly started at the residence of Gloria Marso then spread to the nearby houses owned by Susana Navarro, Razzy Riatazan, Jose Rolluda, Hellario Rolluda, Alfredo Rolluda, Michael Carreon and Alex Parocha. The cause of fire was allegedly due to an unattended lighted candle. All houses except the house of Alex Parocha were made of light materials. The cadaver of Alfredo Carreon was found badly burned.
Reckless imprudence resulting in
homicide and physical injuries
On January 17, 2018 at about 11:00 AM, an accident transpired at 1150 level 108B26 South, Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company (LCMC), Nayak, Sapid, Mankayan, Benguet involving a Load Haul Dump (LHD) 62 equipment of the LCMC being operated by the arrested suspect, Alfredo Deg-awan Padalla, 29, married, LHD operator, native of Suquib, Besao, Mtn. Province and presently residing at Nursery, Sapid, Mankayan, Benguet. The victims were John Gamboa Bilagot, 55, married, mocker of LCMC, native of Tadian, Mtn. Province and presently residing in Paco, Mankayan, Benguet and Edison Domilies Matting, male, 23, single, BS Mining Engineering trainee of LCMC, and a native resident of Guinaoang, Mankayan, Benguet.
Investigation disclosed that Padalla was operating the LHD at the inclined portion when the engine of the LHD equipment suddenly shut off causing it to lose its brakes and moved very fast downward. Padalla shouted “kwedaw” 3 times to the victims who were standing more or less three meters away from the LHD equipment. The victims ran but they were hit and pressed against a boulder by the bucket of the LHD equipment. Both victims sustained injuries and were rescued and rushed by personnel of LCMC to the Lepanto Hospital, Paco, Mankayan, Benguet but Bilagot died while being treated. Matting survived and is confined and under further observation. Pagalla is under the custody of Mankayan MPS. Pertinent documents are being readied for the filing of a case against him for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injuries.**
