More marijuana destroyed in Kalinga, 2 arrested
CAMP BADO, DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – The CPNPs directive to annihilate all forms of illegal drugs specifically marijuana plants in the Cordillera resulted in the destruction and burning of 5.9 million more worth of fully grown marijuana plants during a follow up marijuana operation in Kalinga.
PSSUPT David K Peredo led his men composed of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB-15) and Kalinga PPO in coordination with PDEA CAR in the uprooting and burning on site of the 33,860 fully grown marijuana plants on May 27, 2018. The destroyed plants have an estimated value of PhP 5,970,000.00 which was discovered in Barangays Buscalan and Loccong, all of Tinglayan, Kalinga. No person was arrested during the operation.
Meanwhile, in another drug operation conducted over the week, Norenio Laguiwey Pokit alias “Labenyo” was arrested in his residence at Bacudongan, Baculongan Norte, Buguias, Benguet in the morning of May 26, 2018. Confiscated were marijuana tops; 9 sachets containing suspected shabu residual; caliber .22 homemade firearm and assorted drug paraphernalia. While Raul Guillao Olsim was collared in his residence at Buyagan, Poblacion, La Trinidad, Benguet in the early morning of May 25, 2019. Confiscated were seven sachets of suspected shabu and other drug paraphernalia.
To ensure continuity of Police Regional Office Cordillera’s anti-illegal drugs campaign, the community should also do their part by reporting the presence of marijuana plantations in their localities. “We are doing our best to stop this drug menace but we need the full support of the local community,” PCSUPT Carranza said.
Physical injury and illegal discharge of firearm
At about 3:30 PM of May 29, 2018, personnel of La Trinidad MPS responded to a shooting incident in Shamolog, Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet. The victim was Jessica Balag-ey, 33, married, and a resident of No. JE 196 Shamolog, La Trinidad, Benguet while the suspect was identified as William D. Lisada, of legal age, and one of the victim’s tenant.
Initial investigation showed that the victim went to the store and went back to their house when she noticed the suspect inside their room. The victim confronted the suspect however he punched and tried to strangle her. The victim fought back until the suspect ran outside then brought out his gun and fired towards an unknown direction.
Responding personnel of La Trinidad MPS arrested the suspect together with the firearm used while the victim was brought to Benguet General Hospital but was released after treatment. The case is under investigation.
Shooting incident
A shooting incident was reported to Kabugao MPS at about 1:25 PM of May 31, 2018 by Francisca Sadao that happened 1:00 PM of same date at Brgy Kumao, Kabugao, Apayao. The victim is Alfredo Anibong Dinnong, 45, married, farmer, while the suspect is Denmar Danlag Balicnang, 28, single, farmer. Both residents of Sitio Aluhung, Kumao, Kabugao, Apayao.
Personnel of Kabugao MPS immediately proceeded to the site at around 1:55 PM to conduct an investigation and a hot pursuit operation for the possible arrest of the suspect. The responding personnel took 9 hours before they arrived at the station 11:20 PM of the same date.
Investigation disclosed that the victim went to the house of the suspect. He entered the kitchen and without any apparent reason he tried to hack with a bolo the half-brother of the susspect named Boyet Sadao who was then eating but Boyet Sadao evaded the attack and they grappled with each other. The suspect who was at their living room went and saw the victim holding a bolo and grappling with his half-brother. He went inside their room, took his carbine and shot the victim, who was holding a bolo, hitting the right side of his body that caused his instantaneous death.
The suspect voluntarily surrendered to the responding team of Kabugao MPS together with the firearm used. The suspect is now detained at Kabugao MPS while documents are being prepared for the filing of a case against the suspect. The weapon used, described as Carbine without serial number will be submitted to Apayao PCLO, Luna, Apayao.
Frustrated homicide
On May 31, 2018 at about 4:00 AM, a frustrated homicide through stabbing transpired along Km. 4, Marcos Highway, Bakakeng Central, Baguio City particularly fronting Gloria’s Store on complaint of Arvin Orpilla Alcantara, 24, single, disco pub entertainer, and a resident of Suello Village, Bakakeng Central, Baguio City against Rey Lakandula alias “Robinhood”, of legal age, single, unemployed, and presently staying at PNB Ville, Bakakeng Central, Baguio City.
Investigation disclosed that before 4:00 AM of May 31, 2018, the victim and his co-worker Servillano Abanilla went to a 7/11 Store situated along Km. 4, Marcos Highway, Bakeng Central, Baguio City just near the place of the incident purposely to buy food. After which, while they were outside the said store, they saw their other co-worker Daryll Bastillo in front of Gloria’s Store. They went to where their co-worker was where they found out that Daryll Bastillo was angry arguing with the suspect. There and then, the victim intervened and pacified the suspect by pushing him away, however, the suspect quickly brought out a knife and stabbed the victim five (5) times the victim. Then the suspect ran away heading towards PNB Ville, Bakakeng Central, Baguio City while the victim was immediately brought by his co-workers to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).
Responding police personnel went to the place where the suspect was staying but he was not there. Victim is presently confined at BGHMC.**
