Parricide
On July 16, 2017 at about 9:00 PM, personnel of Itogon MPS responded to a reported case of parricide that transpired at Camp 1000 Acupan, Virac, Itogon, Benguet. Manuel Dallagan Basoyang, 51, married, native of San Juan, Tabuk, Kalinga was stabbed to death by his son, Mark Anthony Banggawan Basoyang, 21, both residents at the above stated place.
Investigation disclosed that both father and son together with Eleazar Puyao were having a drinking spree when they had a verbal tussle wherein the victim uttered such words “ADDA KABIT NI INAM IDIAY TABUK”. Upon saying this, his son got irked and got a knife and stabbed his father on his left chest. The victim was rushed by his brother Melchor Basoyang to the Baguio General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Paolo Igama at 7:33 PM. His remains were brought back immediately to their residence. The suspect was arrested by responding police personnel and they are waiting for the decision of the family if they will file the case.
Incidental death
On July 16, 2017 at about 8:40AM an incident of Tunnel Breakdown transpired at level 908 (underground) of Philex Mining Corporation was reported at about 4:00PM of same date that resulted in the death of Abelardo Binwag, 48, a scope tram operator.
Investigation disclosed that his place of work collapsed and was pinned down by big boulders. He was rescued and rushed to Sto. Niño Hospital, Philex, but was declared dead on arrival by his attending physician.
Search and rescue operation in Sagada
On July 16, 2017 at about 6:45 PM, personnel of Sagada MPS together with different rescue groups responded to an emergency situation at Victoria Cave located at Sitio Maduto, Angkileng, Sagada wherein 3 tour guides all residents of Sagada were trapped inside.
Investigation disclosed that the seven tour guides entered purposely to explore the cave but while inside, a large volume of water suddenly entered the cave. Four of them were able to get out, two were rescued, while one, identified as Roderick Malecdan, of legal age, is still missing. Search and Rescue Operation are still ongoing.
Illegal recruitment
On July 17, 2017 at about 9:00 AM inside the Ladies Dorm of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Abanao Street, Baguio City, joint operatives of Baguio City Police Office, PS1, PS9, and PS5, BCPO served the warrant of arrest of Marie Claire Afidchao Vergara “a.k.a. Claire or Clarissa Delos Santos”, 50 years old, married, unemployed, and a resident of Purok 22 San Carlos Hts., Baguio City.
She was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Hon. Maria Ligaya V. Itliong-Rivera, Presiding Judge of RTC Branch 5, Baguio City docketed under Criminal Case No. 40127-R for Illegal Recruitment. Arrested person is currently detained for Estafa and Illegal Recruitment.
Drowning incident
On July 17, 2017 at around 6:30 AM, Tadian MPS received a phone call from Ericson Bayawa Agaid who informed them of a human body floating in a fishpond wearing colored gray t-shirt and colored brown “corduroy” pants. The victim’s body is floating facing downward the fish pond. The cadaver was later identified as Cris Banban Guidangen, 28 years old, male, single, laborer, and a resident of Poblacion, Tadian, Mountain Province.
Initial investigation disclosed that at around 6:30 PM of July 16, 2017, the victim went to the Auto Repair Shop in Dogodog, Poblacion, Tadian owned and managed by James Simongo Sr. and joined a drinking session thereat. Between 8:30 PM to 9:00 PM of July 16, 2017, his cousin Walter Guidangen also with the group noticed the victim went out of the shop and left the place. Further investigation disclosed that the victim accidentally fell from the road going into the fish pond where the extended bar in the pond hit his forehead. As per the post mortem examination conducted by Dra. Ruth Ann Sabling Balaoas, MHO-Tadian, the victim died due to drowning. The cadaver of the victim was brought by his relatives to their residence in Sitio Katapag, Poblacion, Tadian.
Police arrest 17 suspects for illegal mining at PMA
A joint operation conducted by members of BCPO Station 4 and PMA personnel resulted in the arrest of 17 individuals who were caught in the act of illegal mining inside the PMA Compound, Fort Del Pilar, Baguio City particularly near the Tower 66 in the afternoon of July 20, 2017.
Arrested individuals were identified as Rufino Zubia y Daloria, married, 48, resident of Basa, Loakan Proper, Baguio City; Dayote Artemio y Papay, married, 47, resident of Basa, Camp 4, Tuba, Benguet; Miguel Legaspi y Letada, married, 42, resident of Purok 28, Irisan, Baguio City; Mariano Lacondazo y Facundo, 38, resident of Littac Sur, Santol, La Union; Edgar Lupian y Galleo, married, 37, resident of Purok 28, San Carlos Height, Baguio City; Paul Mark Rivera y Letada, married, 31, resident of Purok 28, San Carlos Heights, Baguio City; Raffy Foy-awon y Acfiawon, 28, native and resident of Camp 4, Tuba, Benguet; Felmore Empizo y Fabian, 27, resident of Camp 6, Tuba Benguet; June Rivera y Peralta, single, 27, resident of Purok 28, Irisan, Baguio City; Wilmer Maclinic y Dalipe, married, 27, resident of Virac, Itogon, Benguet; Marvin Lupian y Sendong, married, 25, resident of Purok 28 Upper Irisan, Baguio City; Aimon Maclinic y Dalipe, single, 22, resident of Basa, Loakan Proper, Baguio City; Herodes Lingfiawan y Chigway, single, 21, resident of Basa, Camp 4, Tuba, Benguet; Joshua Taño y Dadacay, single, 19, resident of Purok 28, Irisan, Baguio City; Jake Maclinic y Kay-an, single, 19, resedent of Paracelis, Mountain Province; and two 17 year old minors.
Their arrest is a result of the full cooperation of the community who informed the police of the ongoing illegal mining activities in the area.
Recovered items were more or less 20 sacks of ore; five (5) pieces of newly cut pine lumber used as support for the mining holes; one blower; one sledge hammer; one chisel; one shovel; and 15 flash lights.
All arrested individuals and seized items are now under the custody of Police Station 4, Baguio City Police Office for proper disposition and filing of cases against them. The two minors were turned over to the DSWD.**
