A Tank Full of Kindness: A Baguio Cop’s Simple Act of Compassion
Along the busy stretch of Governor Pack Road in Baguio City, a simple act of kindness by a police officer during a routine mobile patrol recently drew appreciation after he extended assistance to a taho vendor whose motorcycle was nearly out of fuel.
While conducting mobile patrol, Pat John Micheal D Oligane of the Baguio City Police Office, a member of PSBRC Class 2020-03 “BAGSIK-ALAB” and a proud native of San Manuel, Pangasinan, noticed a taho vendor carefully maneuvering his motorcycle along the roadside.
Concerned for the vendor’s safety, Pat Oligane approached and guided him to a safer location beside the road.
During their brief interaction, the police officer learned that the motorcycle’s fuel was nearly depleted, which could have affected the vendor’s ability to continue his livelihood for the day.
Without hesitation, Pat Oligane offered assistance and accompanied the vendor to a nearby gasoline station to refuel the motorcycle. He personally paid for the fuel using his own money to help the vendor continue his daily work.
Though simple, the gesture reflected compassion, empathy, and genuine concern beyond routine police duties, showing the human side of public service and the quiet impact of helping those in need.
The incident serves as a reminder that police work goes beyond law enforcement, it also involves acts of kindness, compassion, and community service that strengthen trust and foster deeper connections between the police and the public.
