Soil erosions result in deaths
On October 20, 2018 at about 1:35 p.m., a series of soil erosion transpired at the back of a house at No. 15 Purok 1 Shangri-La Village, San Luis Barangay, Baguio City where three (3) male laborers were buried to death.
Initial investigation revealed that six (6) laborers were digging out soil at the base of a riprap when the soil above them suddenly eroded burying them. Three of the workers were pulled-out by their co-workers. They were extracting the other three when a second wave of erosion occurred burying completely the three remaining victims, namely: Lemuel Maluate, John Ray Daus and Jeff (whose full name is still unknown), all natives of Pangasinan.
Responding personnel of PS1, BCPO together with BFP personnel, EMS team, BCPO-SWAT and BCPO-MPU participated in the retrieval operations that ended at about 3:35 p.m. of same date. The victims were rushed to BGHMC but were declared dead at about 4:00 p.m .by their attending physician.
Violation of RA 7610 and physical injuries
At around 12:50 a.m. of October 21, 2018, an alleged violation of RA 7610 and cases of physical injuries was reported to PS9, BCPO which transpired around 12:00 midnight of October 21, 2018 at No. 13 Purok 19 San Carlos Heights, Irisan, Baguio City. The victims were identified as a female minor and Sandra Victoria Laluan, 31, married, ESL teacher while the suspect was identified as the minor’s stepfather, Alvin Bravo Sangalang, 43, married, driver, all residents at the place of the incident.
Investigation disclosed that prior to the incident, Ms. Laluan went to the rented house of her stepfather purposely to visit her siblings when she heard the suspect, who was then under the influence of liquor getting mad. The suspect, armed with a chopping knife, suddenly attacked them and struck Ms. Laluan with the knife causing injuries on her left index finger and right hand. He then punched the female minor on her abdomen several times causing her to lose consciousness.
Personnel of PS9, BCPO arrested the suspect, recovered the chopping knife from his possession and brought the victims to BGHMC for medical treatment. Case if for filing in court..
Drowning incident
Please be informed that on October 20, 2018 at around 11:40 AM, Jonalyn Tolentino, legal age, married and resident of Bantay, Paracelis, Mt. Province personally appeared to Alfonso Lista MPS and reported that her nephew, Prety Tolentino Maganay, 17, ALS student and resident of Ngileb, Alfonso Lista, Ifugao was drowned at Angel’s Resort, Potia, Alfonso Lista, Ifugao owned by Czaldy Alindayo.
Investigation shows that the victim went to the sliding area and tried to slide himself in standing position when he stumbled on the water, hitting his cousin’s neck who was also on the pool. The watchman observed that the victim was not coming out prompting him to rescue the victim from the water with the help of Adam Loyd Bernardino, 15, and Jonard A Carabacan, 22, both residents of Potia of said place. The watchman conducted first aid to the victim but he was not revived. They rushed the victim to Potia District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. According to Mr. Carabacan, who was just 4 meters away, the victim slid himself in standing position but when he was about to reach the end of the slide, he heard the victim’s body hit the concrete slide. Case is still under investigation.
Gambling and drug pushing
Through tipped information, police arrested five gamblers in the act of playing a card game at Cardan Resto Bar, Kayang Street, Upper Market, Baguio City in the afternoon of October 23, 2018.
Arrested were Jimboy Valdez De Guzman, 23; John Michael Frigillana Villanueva, 33; Rico Daway Wayang, 23; Ronel Bentoga Sayas, 22; and Bernie Bartolome Segundo, 43. A certain Edwin Pregillana Hilario, 27, managed to escape.
Personnel of the Criminal Intelligence Unit and personnel of PS 7, BCPO were able to confiscate one (1) square table, five (5) mono block chairs, one (1) set of playing cards and cash money amounting to Php2,560.00.
In another operation, a drug pusher identified as Fernando Quiñones Carbonel a.k.a. “Nanding”, 65, driver and presently residing at Naguilian Road, Baguio City was arrested in a buy-bust operation at the jeepney terminal of Guisad, Baguio City in the afternoon of the same date.
During the operation, personnel of Police Station 2, BCPO and PDEA-CAR confiscated six (6) pieces heat sealed transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu and and an undetermined amount of buy bust money.
All arrested are now under the custody of the concerned operating units while appropriate charges were filed against them in court.
Accidental death
On October 24, 2018 at about 8:40 p.m., a phone call from a concerned citizen of Barangay Nungulunan, Hungduan, Ifugao informed Hungduan MPS that they brought to Hungduan District Hospital one Lorena Tamingo, of legal age, and a resident of Sitio Kikiling, Nungulunan, Ifugao who fell into a ravine of approximately 7-8 meters deep. Responding personnel of Hungduan MPS proceeded to Hungduan District Hospital to verify the report. According to her attending physician Gina A. Buyucan, the victim was under the influence of liquor with multiple linear abrasions on her left chest, puncture on her frontal face and zero vital signs when she was brought to the hospital due to a traumatic brain injury as a result of the accidental fall.
Allegedly, the victim came from an occasion of their neighbor where she joined in the drinking session then insisted to go home.**
