Three suspects slain in Benguet shootout
Camp Major Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet- Three (3) individuals suspected to be involved in robbery hold-up and carnapping incidents in Pampanga area were slain when they tried to elude arrest by pursuing operatives of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) and La Trinidad Municipal Police Station (MPS) along the Baguio-Bontoc Road in Tomay, La Trinidad, Benguet, early morning of December 10, 2021.
Joint operatives of La Trinidad MPS and HPG- Special Operations Division (SOD) spotted the suspects aboard a red Mitsubishi Lancer with a missing back license plate along the Baguio-Bontoc Road at Tomay, La Trinidad.
Upon immediate verification of the car’s front plate number through the LTO Online 2600 Inquiry, it revealed that the plate number was registered for a different car make and model.
This prompted the operatives to track the suspects until they reached the Clean Fuel Gasoline Station where they attempted to accost them. The suspects immediately opened fire at the operatives and drove away through Lamut-Shilan Road.
The operatives then chased after the suspects and immediately alerted PROCOR and the Cordillera Regional Highway Patrol Unit for assistance.
The pursuit ended when the suspects’ car crashed on a roadside barrier after trying to evade a police roadblock. Despite repeated warnings from the operatives, the suspects kept firing as they tried to flee on foot.
An exchange of fire between the suspects and operatives ensued eventually killing two (2) of the suspects while the third was immediately brought to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Benguet cops plant trees in Kapangan
In line with one of the PNP’s core values: “Makakalikasan,” police officers of Kapangan Municipal Police Station (MPS) together with the Benguet Provincial Forensic Unit, conducted a tree planting activity in support of the advocacy on the environmental protection in Brgy. Gaswiling, Kapangan.
Working together with the barangay officials, teachers, youth volunteers, and religious groups, they were able to plant a total of 300 assorted fruit-bearing trees in a communal forest in the area.
Meanwhile, as the result of the regular conduct of forest patrol, Benguet cops were able to recover a total of 269.34 board feet of illegally sawn pine lumber amounting to Php 10,883.20 from December 5 to 7, 2021.
Tublay MPS recovered a total of 68 board feet of illegally sawn pine lumber in Sitio Sayatan, Brgy Daclan, Tublay; 1st Benguet PMFC recovered 90 board feet in Sitio Timbak, Brgy Pacso, Buguias; and Bokod MPS recovered 111.34 board feet in Sitio Salidet, Brgy Pito, Bokod.
#BARANGAYanihan in Besao, Mtn. Prov.
Aiming to check on the welfare and extend help to residents in one of the remote barangays in their area of responsibility, police officers of the 1st and 2nd Mountain Province Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) together with troops of the Philippine Army conducted a #BARANGAYanihan activity in Brgy Gueday, Besao, Mountain Province.
According to Mountain Province PMFC, they traveled for two (2) hours and hiked for 30 minutes to reach the barangay.
With a total of 60 beneficiaries, the team was able to distribute slippers and assorted clothing to the community.
Moreover, from their voluntary contributions, they also donated five (5) pieces of 2-inch diameter metal pipes which they formally turned over to the punong barangay, Hon. June Bawingan Yangyang.
The metal pipes will be used to replace the worn-out and rusty pipes that supply water to a total of 35 households in the barangay.
Further, as part of the program, Mountain Province PMFC also awarded certificates of scholarship to three (3) students under the unit’s Educational Enhancement Program.**
