Death of a local tourist
On October 28, 2018 at about 7:30 a.m., Hana Gegway, nurse at St. Theodore’s Hospital in Sagada, Mountain Province reported to Sagada MPS the death of a local tourist identified as Charlie Rigodo Bagio Jr., 37, teacher, with address at Quiapo, Manila at around 10:05 p.m. of October 27, 2018.
Investigation disclosed that on the morning of October 26, 2018 a group of teachers/local tourists arrived and checked-in at Bagalima Inn located at Demang, Sagada, Mountain Province. The following morning, the group had their tour of the different scenic spots of the municipality but the victim did not join the tour at Bomod-ok Falls, Fidelisan, Sagada due to a health condition. However, Bagio joined the tour at the hanging coffins near the said hospital. Afterwards, returned to the inn. At around 9:25 p.m. of October 27, 2018, after taking a shower, the victim complained to his roommates of chest pain and informed them that some of his body parts are stiffening and further asked them to buy medicine. At that instance, his roommates rushed him to the St. Theodore’s Hospital but he expired at around 10:05 p.m. He had dilated pupils, reddish sclerea and cyanotic peripheries and was pronounced dead due to cardiac arrest secondary to massive myocardial infarction by his attending physician.
Vehicular accident
On October 28, 2018 at about 2:30 p.m., personnel of Atok MPS responded to a vehicular accident that transpired along Km. 53, Halsema Highway, Cattubo, Atok, Benguet at about 2:00 p.m. Involved vehicle was a jitney with Plate No. AHC-349, driven by Henry Ricardo Bestre, 52, married, farmer, and a resident of Tulodan, Cattubo, Atok, Benguet while the victim was identified as James Banas-e Nabe, 45, single, farmer, and a resident of Km. 51, Cattubo, Atok, Benguet.
Investigation disclosed that the respondent was going home to Tulodan with his vehicle when he was flagged down by the victim at Km. 51, Pakyaw, Paoay, Atok, Benguet and rode by standing at the back of the vehicle. Tulodan. Sensing that the victim seemed to be under the influence of liquor he told the victim to get inside the vehicle but the victim refused. When they were at Km. 51, Cattubo, Atok, Benguet, the victim fell on the road so the respondent stopped and with the aid of passers by, they loaded the victim and rushed him to Atok District Hospital, Sayangan, Paoay, Atok, Benguet but he was pronounced dead on arrival by his attending physician. The respondent voluntarily surrendered but the immediate relatives of the victim opted not to file a complaint and that they are all relatives.
Shooting incident
On October 30, 2018 at around 4:45 PM, a shooting incident happened in Conner, Apayao where Novelle Lutoc Laurita, aka “NONONG”, 33 years old, single, brgy. tanod, a resident of Brgy. Ripang, Conner, Apayao and a detainee of Conner MPS for the crime of rape was shot to death by a still unidentified suspect while escaping from Conner MPS.
Investigation disclosed that the victim was currently detained at the Conner MPS Lockup room pending preliminary investigation for his rape case. At around 4:40 p.m. of same date, the detainee destroyed the padlock of his detention cell and went out then attacked everyone inside the station using a wood with a nail attached to it, inflicting injury to the personnel on duty who tried to subdue him but was able to get out of the station by breaking the glass door. Thereafter, he attacked some personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) outside the station where the Municipal Mayor Hon. Leonardo Dangoy was present, then ran towards Barangay Ripang where he was shot while fleeing. Personnel of Conner MPS brought the detainee to Conner District Hospital but he was declared dead by the attending physician while undergoing treatment.
Structural fire
A structural fire happened at around 9:50 p.m. of October 30, 2018 resulting in the death of Winie Joy Kilongan Tayni, 34 years of age, single, bed ridden/special child and a resident of Patay Sagada Mountain Province.
Investigation revealed that victim was inside the bungalow house of her grandmother Maria Basali Kilongan. The grandmother lighted a candle for the victim light then left her and went to the main house. However, at around 9:50 p.m. of same date, the grandmother was surprised when she noticed that the bungalow was on fire that prompted her to call for help.
Responding personnel of Sagada MPS, fire marshals and civilian volunteers suppressed the fire but Winnie Joy was already hurt by the fire. Victim was rushed to St. Teodore’s Hospital but was pronounced DOA by her attending physician.
