P2.5M worth of marijuana in Benguet
and Mtn. Province destroyed
Police operatives, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) destroyed an estimated Php2,500,000.00 worth of marijuana plants in Benguet and Mountain Province.
In the evening of January 18, 2018, joint operatives of Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR), Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) and the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Cordillera and Region 1 uprooted more or less 12,800 fully grown marijuana plants in Kibungan, Benguet
The illegal plants were found in four different plantation sites covering an estimated land area of 1,600 square meters at Sitio Batangan, Tacadang, Kibungan Benguet which is located in the tri-boundary of Benguet, La Union and Ilocos Sur.
Meanwhile, operatives of Mountain Province Provincial Police Office (MPPPO) yesterday also uprooted 110 fully grown marijuana plants with an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) value of Php22,000.00 at barangay Sadsadan, Bauko, Mountain Province.

January 18, 2019 was a day to remember for the 110 trekkers coming from PNP PROCOR. The trekkers composed of organic personnel and family dependents assigned with the Regional Headquarters (RHQ), Regional Mobile Force Company 15 (RMFB15), Benguet Police Provincial Office (BPPO), and Regional Health Service (RHS). Mt. Pulag is the highest peak in Luzon at 2,926 meters above sea level and third highest mountain in the Philippines next to Mt. Apo in Davao and Mt. Dulang Dulang in Bukidnon.
The activity was organized by the PROCOR Command Group headed by the Regional Director, PCSupt Rolando Zambale Nana and his wife Mrs. Arlene Nana. The realization of this endeavor stemmed from the RD’s desire to ensure that his men are physically fit and healthy.
The group assembled in the afternoon of January 17, 2019 at the Multi-Purpose Gym at Camp Major Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet for an initial briefing. At the Ranger station at Babalak, Bashoy, Kabayan, Benguet, the jump-off point,they were oriented by DENR personnel as to what to expect as well as the rules and regulations on climbing the mountain. Cultural presentation followed which was initiated by the community led by the barangay chairman of of the locality..
After about 4 hours (to include resting time) of trekking, the group finally reached the summit at around 5:45 AM, only few minutes before the sun slowly appeared on the sky followed by a sea of clouds .
Climbing Mount Pulag requires physical stability and determination but once you’ve reached the top, the effort and sweat were absolutely worth it.

a drug search in Kalinga
Police operatives of Kalinga Police Provincial Office (KPPO) yesterday arrested two suspected drug personalities during the implementation of a search warrant in Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
The suspects identified as Real Gold Olsim, 30, listed as High Value Target of Tabuk City Police Station and Celso Capuyan, 24, were former drug surrenderers during the height of Oplan Double Barrel.
During the search in the house of Olsim, the police were able to discover 16 pieces of small heat-sealed transparent sachets containing white crystalline powder suspected to be “shabu” and one 9mm pistol loaded with a magazine and ammunition.
Onsite inventory was conducted in the presence of representatives of the media, Department of Justice, elected barangay officials and the suspects. The confiscated items and the suspects were brought to Tabuk City Police Station for documentation.
Found cadaver
A cadaver was discovered by Albert Aboli, 29, single, a native Bontoc, Mtn. Province and a resident along Lower West Monticello, Camp 7, Baguio City around 10:00a.m. of January 24, 2019 on the first floor of a residential house under construction there and reported thise around 1:45 p.m of same date.
The cadaver identified as BENITO CHOCYOGEN, of legal age, single, construction worker a native of Mainit, Bontoc, Mtn. Province, was residing at a shanty house beside the residence of a certain William Banganan at thot place.
According to the sister of the victim identified as Divina Chocyogen y Chawaten, 26 years old, housewife, a tenant of the Banganan residence, she last saw her brother when they finished their dinner at around 11:00p.m. of January 23, 2019.
The victim only incurred physical injuries on his neck caused by a nylon cord he used to hang himself. There were no indications of any resistance, and his personal belongings were intact. Investigators were convinced there was no foul play involved.**
