7,944 police and military officers deployed for May 13 polls in CAR
The Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR) and the Philippine Army yesterday dispatched 6,244 police and 1,700 military contingents to the different provinces in the Cordillera during the send-off ceremony at Camp Major Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet to ensure a peaceful election this coming May 13.
The contingent is composed of 2,738 police personnel who will be securing voting centers; 280 will secure election hubs and canvassing centers; 413 will be manning election monitoring centers; 1,890 will serve as reactionary standby and support force; 290 are assigned to do other law enforcement duties; and 2,333 consisting of 633 police and 1,700 army personnel coming from the Fifth and Seventh Infantry Division of the Philippine Army will act as quick reaction teams.
During the program, PROCOR regional director, Israel Ephraim Dickson, reminded the deployable personnel not to be complacent and not to underestimate threat groups. He also emphasized to the contingent to exercise impartiality, neutrality, and professionalism.
“The primary mission of the PNP is to provide security to ensure safe, credible and honest conduct of the elections in our region,” He said.
All the deployed personnel are expected to render duty starting yesterday and will remain at their assigned posts until their services are terminated by their respective election supervisors.
Meanwhile, PROCOR appeals to the public to cooperate and abide by the guidelines for the election period and be part of the safe, secure, honest and fair elections.
Robbery
On May 9, 2019 at around 4:30 PM, personnel of Aguinaldo MPS received a phone call from a concerned individual informing of a robbery incident that transpired at Sitio Butigan, Barangay Chalalo, Aguinaldo, Ifugao where the victim was identified as Susan Gahate Valdez, 33, married, OFW, and a resident of same place while the suspect was identified as Julius Umingle Padiangan, 40, married, also a resident of same place. Immediately after receipt of the call, PNP personnel proceeded to the place of incident.
Investigation disclosed that at about 3:00 PM of May 9, 2019, the victim was sleeping in their bedroom with the main door properly locked when she heard a noise and felt that someone sneaked inside their house through the ceiling. The victim who was worried woke up and checked the room where the noise came from and discovered that Julius U. Padiangan was ransacking the items inside the victim’s durabox prompting her to shout, “What are you doing!” The suspect stood up prompting the victim to rush outside their house and called for help but the suspect have already escaped. Victim found out later that her wallet kept in the drawer of the dura box containing Php 8,000.00 and some important identification cards were missing. Responding PNP personnel conducted a hot pursuit operation that lead to the suspect’s arrest.
Reckless imprudence resulting in homicide
On May 9, 2019 at around 7:30 PM, a case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide was reported to Pudtol MPS that transpired at around 6:30 PM of same date along the National Highway at Barangay Upper Maton, Pudtol, Apayao. Vehicles involved were a motorcycle red TMX 155 (V1) with no license plate owned and driven by Jerome Dandan Caddawan, 22, single, farmer and a resident of Brgy. Upper Maton, Pudtol, Apayao and an Isuzu Sportive (V2) with license plate AAA 2570, Engine No. 4JA1M45602, Chassis No. PABTBR54FD2078138 registered under the name of John Paul S. Ancheta, driven by Ranjen Agcaoili Tarupa, 27, married, government employee and a resident of Brgy. Malibang, Pudtol, Apayao.
Investigation disclosed that, V2 was travelling towards Upper Maton, Pudtol, Apayao particularly at the ascending portion while V1 was travelling towards the opposite direction. Accordingly, V1 allegedly encroached in the lane of V2 causing a head-on collision. Driver of V2 and responding concerned citizens brought the driver of V1 to Amma Jadsac District Hospital, Pudtol and was further referred to Far North General Hospital and Training Center, Luna but was declared dead on arrival at around 7:05 PM of May 9, 2019. Cause of death was traumatic brain Injury. The driver of V2 was unhurt. Further, V1 incurred misaligned front wheel, broken side mirrors, while V2 incurred was damaged on the left side headlight and left side mirror.
