Robbery
A case of robbery happened at JC 049-2, Km.4, Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet and was reported to the police at about 1:00 PM. The victim was identified as Rose Bekegan Magno, 57, widow, a native of Banooy, Buguias, Benguet and a resident/boarder at the place of incident.
According to the victim, at around 6:00 PM of May 25, 2019, her nephew identified as Polonia Palkacio, 44, married, farmer, a native of Balili, Mankayan, Benguet handed to her the payment of their vegetables amounting to Php280,000.00 for safekeeping. The victim then hid the cash under her folded clothes inside the cabinet of her boarding house. At around 7:00 AM of the next day, the victim went out from her boarding house and went back at around 11:30 AM of same date and she discovered that the padlock of her boarding house was destroyed prompting her to check the said cash but it was not there anymore.
The crime scene was processed by the IOC but no latent print was lifted. A CCTV camera that was installed at the place of incident and the footage was requested for viewing. The case is still under investigation.
Policeman mauled and robbed
At around 7:30 PM of May 24, 2019 along Leonard Wood Road, Baguio City, Patrolman EMMANUEL FERRER OZAETA, 33, single, PNP member assigned at RIO20, Camp Crame, Quezon City was mauled by four (4) unidentified men. The incident was only reported by the victim to the PS3, BCPO at around 11:15 PM of the same date.
While the victim was walking along Leonard Wood Road towards Teachers Camp, a white L300 van stopped and the suspects got down from the van. One of them suddenly collared, punched and then dragged him to a dark spot beside the road. He was pleading of his assailants to stop punching him and even identified himself as a policeman and voluntarily surrendered his wallet. After confirming the identity of the victim, the suspect gave back the wallet but the P15,000.00 that was in it was missing. This prompted him to report the incident. Case is still under investigation.
Vehicular accident
At around 5:00 PM of May 24, 2019, personnel of Sabangan MPS responded to a reported vehicular accident at Sitio Bisibisan, Brgy. Supang, Sabangan, Mtn. Province. Vehicles involved were GL Passenger Bus, bearing plate no. RMF 568, driven by Blester Lapa-an Bing-il, 26 years old, single, driver, a resident of 501 San Vicente, Kennon Road, Baguio City and a Rising Sun Passenger Bus bearing plate no. AYU 865, colored green, driven by Dave Bangcado, 26 years old, single, driver, a resident of KM3, San Luis Extension, Baguio City.
Initial investigation disclosed that the GL Bus was traversing the national road going to Besao, Mountain Province when at a curve, the wheels suddenly slipped and encroached on the other lane hitting an oncoming Rising Sun Bus. As a result, both vehicles incurred multiple damage and their drivers including 25 passengers sustained injuries. Both drivers and 18 passengers were rushed by concerned citizens to the Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital, Bauko, Mtn. Province while seven passengers were brought to Bontoc General Hospital, Bontoc, Mtn. Province for medical treatment.
Case is still under investigation.
Php5.7-M worth of marijuana destroyed
Marijuana plants worth 5.7 million were destroyed in the hinterlands of Kalinga, in Barangay Butbut Proper and Tinglayan during the implementation of Oplan Green Pearl Bravo.
The operating troops discovered ten plantation sites with a total land area of 2,931 square meters planted with 28,300 fully grown marijuana plants, and 1,000 seedlings.
The 3-day operation started on May 27-29, 2019 steered by the joint operatives of Tinglayan and Lubuagan Municipal Police Stations, Kalinga Drug Enforcement Unit, members of the 1st and 2nd KPMFC, and PDEA Kalinga Provincial Office.
The Oplan Green Pearl Bravo was created to incessantly clear all drug-affected barangays in Tinglayan, Kalinga.
Police Brigadier General Israel Ephraim T Dickson, RD PROCOR praised the operating elements but warned the cultivators to stop their green gold farming as the government will not stop pursuing them and destroying their plants. He also appealed to all BADACs and MADACs of the province of Kalinga to help the authorities in getting rid of this social menace by doing their respective duties and functions and enhancing their anti-illegal drugs campaign. “We cannot do this alone, we need the help of other stakeholders to totally eradicate illegal drugs,” Dickson said.**
