Awards for helping during typhoon “Ompong”
Camp Major Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad Benguet– Fifty-one individuals from the PNP and other agencies who helped in the twelve day search, rescue and retrieval operations due yyphoon “Ompong” in the Cordillera were awarded during the Monday flag raising ceremony at the PROCOR headquarters, Camp Major Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet.
With the guest of honor and speaker, Hon. Victorio Tongalog Palangdan, Mayor of Itogon, Benguet, Medalya ng Pagtulong sa Nasalanta was awarded to the following heads of PROCOR units: PSSupt Lyndon Mencio, PD, Benguet PPO; PSSupt Ramil Saculles, CD, BCPO; PSupt Mark Pespes, Force Commander, RMFB 15; PSupt Estella Umali, Chief RHS Cordillera; PCI Marilyn Lopez, OIC, RCLO; PCI Ronnie Albino, Assistant TM, RSTU-COR; PSinsp Heherson Zambale, COP, Itogon, MPS.

Honorable Palangdan thanked all the people who helped during the onslaught of the typhoon. He enumerated the following causes of the tragedy in Ucab, Itogon Benguet, particularly at Sitio 070 First Gate: Non-implementation of the moratorium order of Secretary Lito Atienza for small scale miners to stop their activities, and for the mining company to stop the small scale miners from building their shanties in the mining area.
Suicide
At about 7:30 AM of October 7, 2018, a concerned citizen reported to Sagada MPS that Rouben Marc, a resident of Cape Town, Belgium allegedly committed suicide at his homestay located at Sitio Datil, Patay, Sagada. Investigation revealed that a certain Lam-oy Busain noticed that the door at the terrace of the second floor of the residence of Camilo Passi where Rouben was renting was open for two days already prompting him to inquire from his neighbors regarding the occupant thereof. Lam-oy Busain then called the caretaker, Keithley B. Robles, thru mobile phone for him to check the house and to close the terrace door at the second floor. When the caretaker went to the house and opened the backdoor, he noticed the occupant dead hanging on a nylon rope tied to the stairs thus he reported the matter to the Sagada MPS.
Cadaver
On October 7, 2018 at about 10:00 AM, Kapangan MPS received a call from the Punong Barangay of Barangay Datakan, Jeffrey Marcelo, informing that a cadaver was found along Datakan-Labueg Provincial Road, Kapangan, Benguet. Initial investigation revealed that witnesses, Jelfin B Rufino, 22 years old, and Marvin L Luis, 29 years old, both residents of Datakan Proper, Datakan, Kapangan, Benguet were walking towards their respective houses at about 9:30 AM of October 7, 2018 when they noticed a person lying on his back. They approached the person and noticed that he was not moving and there was a T-shirt wrapped around his head. They immediately reported the matter to the barangay chairman who in turn reported to the police.
Benguet PCLO personnel processed the crime scene, no identification card was recovered from the male cadaver. Post Mortem examination was conducted and showed that the cadaver sustained punctured wounds at his left shoulder, right shoulder, right upper chest, and ligature marks on his neck. The cadaver has an eagle tattoo on his right arm and golden upper teeth, which was brought to La Paz Funeral Homes, Baguio City.
Death due to landslide
At around 10:25 PM of October 7, 2018, PO3 Elvis U. Patawon called Banaue MPS through their hotline informing that a landslide transpired at Sitio Panalngan, Bocos, Banaue, Ifugao. The search and rescue team of Banaue MPS with the BFP-Banaue and some volunteers proceeded to the place and started excavating the landslide that buried the victim Felipe B Patawon, 68 years old, widow. At about 11:00 PM of same date, the lifeless body of the victim was retrieved. Investigation revealed that there was a heavy rain at about 4:00 PM on that day resulting in a landslide that hit the house and buried the victim who was sleeping there.
Qualified theft
On October 8, 2018 at about 10:00 AM, a case of qualified theft per the complaint of Atty. Nelson Valdez Gayo, against his employee, Liziel Moreno Planco, 30, single, with known address at Upper Mangga, Tuding, Itogon, Benguet, service crew of Minute Burger located at Shanum corner Otek Streets, Baguio City.for failing to remit their sales proceeds amounting to more than Php 30,000.00 from October 4 to 8, 2018.
Investigation disclosed that on the above stated place and date, complainant discovered that the suspect failed to remit said earnings while visiting his outlet. Complainant then coordinated with operatives of BCPO Station 7, CIU, MPU to locate the suspect, who failed to appear for work.
Investigation resulted in the arrest of the suspect at Upper Mangga, Tuding, Itogon, Benguet. A gun, cal 45,1911 model without markings with serial number 451704P, with seven (07) ammunition were also confiscated inside the boarding house of the respondent. A separate case of Violation of RA No. 10591 is being filed by Itogon MPS against the respondent. Case is ready for inquest proceedings.**
