BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) reminds the public to conserve and recycle water as a water crisis looms this summer.
CDRRM Officer Louie Glenn Lardizabal, during the recent Ugnayang Panlungsod, bared that shortage in water supply in the city is already being felt.
To address such, he said there is a need to strengthen the information and education campaign and educate the public on water conservation and recycling.
“One thing that we should be more into now is ‘yung water conservation and ‘yung recycling of water. Hindi po kailangang hintayin natin na mawalan tayo ng tubig bago tayo mag-isip na “sana umulan para may maigib ako dun sa down spout ng aking bubong’,” he said.
Lardizabal shared that during their disaster management engagement in the barangays, they have observed that “people now are just relying on water district, ‘yung schedule ng tubig nila, they do stock up water but with regards sa pagdating ng panahon ng tag-ulan, madalang kang may makitang nag-iigib ng tubig-ulan.”
He underlined that it is important to train people on how to conserve and recycle water but on how to send the message remains a challenge.
Lardizabal said he will be raising these issues during their CRDRRMC meeting for further action.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong and Baguio Water District General Manager Salvador Royeca earlier said that long-term solutions on water crisis are continuously being pursued including exploration works and drilling of more wells.
Both officials also urged the public to help conserve water in their homes, offices and establishments through repurposing water and use every drop, recycle water by reusing laundry water for flushing toilets or cleaning the bathroom, turning off faucets when not in use, and capturing rainwater, among others.
Recently, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. signed an executive order creating a water resource management office as part of efforts to address ‘water crisis’ threatening the country. **JDP/DEG-PIA CAR
