BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The quest for autonomy continues as the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) celebrates its 35th Founding Anniversary this July.
With the theme “One Autonomous Cordillera: Ensuring Social Development and Inclusive Growth in the New Normal,” the kick-off program will be held in Sagada, Mountain Province on July 1, 2022.
As the host of the celebration, Mountain Province Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan said that in unity with the rest of the provinces in the Cordillera, they are still longing to be autonomous, and are hopeful that the new administration will pave the way to the realization of this.
“We strrongly believe that this is the best way by which we can tailor fit our programs and projects suited for our people and for our mountainous terrain. We have strong faith and optimism that with the Marcos Administration, we can finally realize our long quest for the elusive regional autonomy status,” Lacwasan said.
On July 15, 1987, President Corazon Aquino issued Executive Order 220 which created the Cordillera Administrative Region. The creation of CAR was in preparation for the region’s becoming one of the two autonomous regions in the country. **JDP/DEG/JBZ-PIA CARe
