CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, Sept. 22 (PIA) — The Revenue District Office (RDO)-11 covering the provinces of Kalinga and Apayao has collected P416.1million for the period January to August this year, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the month of August, collection was recorded at P44M exceeding its collection target of P36.5M.
Based on the RDO’s collection report, government withholding tax is the top source of taxes accounting for about 80% of the total collection.
Though tax withheld from contracts on government infrastructure projects which used to be high was low this time due to the suspension of projects during the enhanced and modified community quarantine. Government purchases were very high because of the need for COVID-19 equipment and logistics.
This contributed largely to the district’s high collection performance which remarkably had off-set the collection gap, RDO 11 Assistant Head Cherry Ann Dulawan explained.
Taxes from business which contributes about 20% had dropped during the period, also because of the pandemic.
Through sustained efforts of the team, Dulawan is optimistic their district office will meet its 2020 collection target of P499M in the remaining four months of the year. **By Larry Lopez, PIA CAR, Kalinga
