Bontoc – “A first in the Cordilleras and the entire country”.
That was part of the remarks of Department of Tourism – Cordillera Regional Director Marie Venus Q. Tan who headed the team that visited the toilets along Halsema Highway to Sagada, Bontoc-Ifugao and Aritao-Baguio routes on November 27-29, 2017.
She referred to the REV the Toilets Campaign Caravan which was an activity of the regional office to spearhead the cleaning of the public toilets along the highways. Proper signages were also appropriately installed.
A supplier, Kalinisan Chemical Corporation, was on hand to lead in the cleaning performances. He demonstrated also on the use of the cleaning chemicals on the floors and walls, on the urinals, and the toilets bowls. Disinfectants and sanitizers were introduced too.
Felipe Quemuel, fondly called “Mr. Clean”, said that his company believes in spearheading the cleanliness of the toilets. He said the same to be odor free.
The chemicals, good for a year’s supply, were left (donated) for the use of the toilets.
For the province, the Mabaay toilets were beneficiaries of this activity on November 27, 2017. The team went to Sagada and Bayyo the following day.
The barangay officials, as well as those maintaining the toilets, were one in expressing gratitude to the concerns of sanitation and upkeep of the toilets through this activity.
The entourage of the regional director included TV and newspaper personalities to help in the dissemination of the activities and the cause.
Sponsors of the toilet campaign are the DepEd, the DPWH, Petron, IWOC, Kalinisan Chemical Corp., provinces of Benguet and Ifugao, and the Department of Tourism.
